To select an area of an image that's smaller than the original. If you are using the Paint program that's supplied with Windows you can use the Area Select tool to clip an image to keep the section of the image you want. The Area Select tool is in the top right hand corner of the tools: select this and then move the cross-hair cursor to the top left-hand corner of the area you want to click. Then, with the left-hand mouse button pressed down, drag the area you want to clip.
